Tg Changi tide gauge: 1.68m, 3.46m download report Photos of site from the Recce |
|
Site 1 is the sandy beach and Site 2 is the rock beach.

Punggol Beach Site 1: Site 1 is a white sandy beach that spans on both sides of the jetty. It can be accessed two ways - via Access A, which is the jetty, and Access B, through the Punggol Holiday Camp. Note that permission may be required to use for Access B. Site 1 has a light trash load, comprises mainly of small plastics and cigarette butts. Estimates of 80 to 100 participants from age 11 and above are suitable to clean up the site in 2 hours time. The only potential hazard in Site 1 is accessing the beach on the left side. When the tide is too high, participants will not be able to access the left side using the jetty. They would have to walk down a rock stairs that might be dangerous for young participants.
Punggol Beach Site 2: Site 2 is a rocky beach on the left side of the jetty beyond the sandy beach, all the way to the fenced-up coast at Access C. Site 2 can be reached via Access B and C. Access A, which is quite far away, can still be used if the other 2 points are not accessible. Access C is reached by going on
a sandy road off Punggol Avenue Seventeen (Road towards
Punggol Marina). Access C is also a suitable as a meeting
point. Buses can wait here. However participants have to
cross a large drain to access the beach. This is a
potentially dangerous for younger students in heavy
rain. Site 2 has a heavy trash load that comprises largely of plastic containers, styrofoam, fishing line and small plastic. Large pieces of trash like tyres and keyboards were also seen. Most of the trash is due to recreational activities and also fishing. In actual fact, the trash load in this site has increased compared to last year's recce. This site can accommodate up to 400 participants preferably age 14 and above, as the rocks on the beach are potentially harzadous.
Conclusion Site 1 will be easy to clean. Site 2 will demand a high workload. There are safety issues to look into especially for wet weather. Access A and C are narrow and would slow down the evacuation process in case of an emergencies. Also there are no easy shelters except for the bus stop and the holiday camp. I strongly advise participants to bring ponchos or raincoats in case of rain. |
